Western Lowland Gorilla

The Congo Gorilla Forest is one of my favorite exhibits at the Bronx Zoo in New York.  It can be a “hit or miss” viewing experience but this past weekend, the crowds were small and three of the gorillas happened to be congregating near the front of the exhibit.   The gorilla pictured here looked like he was deep ignoring the playful movements of his friends that were climbing and throwing around branches and leaves.

I chose to remove all color distractions and create a black and white image that would hopefully capture this gorilla’s reflective mood and draw attention to his face, specifically his eyes.
